Tree Daemon (Mirror Montage)

Ok. This is a scary one. At a recent workshop with André Gallant, André used a simple picture of a tree to demonstrate mirror montages. That is, overlaying multiple copies of an image in different orientations, giving a mirrored or kaleidoscope effect. The result was pretty creepy. I decided to revisit that experiment.

You never know what is going to fall in your lap when you do this. Even though I find the image a bit disturbing, I can’t stop experimenting with it, looking for even more variations.

André gives more details about the technique on his site.

  1. Is this the same version we saw at the workshop? Very nice! I’m still going through stuff as well.

  2. I’m not sure. Andre tried a couple of variations, and I don’t think any were actually saved. This is the first time I’ve gone back to it. When I get some time (never enough!) I’ll try it with some other photos.
